Local moving and Intra State moving are separated by mileage. For local moving services in the State of Washington, under 55 miles is considered local moving, done by an hourly rate, and over 55 miles is considered an Intra State move , charged by the net weight. Both of these regulated charges are provided in a tariff written and published by the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission in Olympia, Washington. Inter State Moving is watched very carefully by the Department of Transportation and has a consumer friend in the American Moving and Storage Association located in Alexandria , Virginia. The AMSA provides consumer information, and provides consumer information called “ Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move”.
Carriers who have interstate authority, have filed published tariffs with the above two organizations, all pricing is published in a carriers tariff. Consumers have the right to receive written quotations called estimates prior to agreeing about moving services.
